Specialty Clubs Program

Answering a Special Call to Serve

We are looking for Lions that will help us answer International President Naresh Aggarwal's call to serve.

Launched in August 2017, the Specialty Club program will run until July 2020. The goal is to create clubs where members feel connected to a common interest or passion. Thereby allowing Lions to connect with fellow members on a deeper level. For example, members may share a hobby, profession, or ethnicity. Also, forming a Specialty Club will allow groups of people around the world, to turn their passions into rewarding service projects that directly benefit their communities.

In fact, a shared interest is how the below Lions clubs were chartered:

  • The El Paso Executive Women Lions Club
  • The Lubbock Law Enforcement Lions Club
  • The Fairbanks Snowmobile Fun Lions Club
  • The New York City Suny Optometry Lions Club
  • The Vigo Champions club (in support of Special Olympics)
  • The Murfreesboro Downtown Barristers Lions club (comprised of legal professionals)
  • The Victoria Quilters Lions Club

Joining a Lions club is a great way to meet people who share common interests, as you build leadership skills while helping people in need.

Expectations

  • Recommendations for one Country Coordinator that will be appointed by IP Aggarwal in countries where there are more than 20,000 members for a three year term.
  • For larger membership countries, an addition of one Country Co- Coordinator, that will be appointed by IP Aggarwal for a three year term.
  • The Country and Country Co-Coordinator can recommend a Lion for the Specialty Club Coordinator role and must work with PID Khetan to develop strategies for adding specialty clubs.
  • Specialty Club Coordinators must complete the application and provide a plan that includes marketing and estimated costs for developing (minimum) five new specialty clubs.
  • In addition, Specialty Club Coordinators can stay in their CA or can travel (with approval) outside of their CA to help build clubs but they will only be reimbursed, if their plan results in 3 new clubs and/or 100 members.

 Recoverable Expenses

  • Please note, only eligible expenses are recoverable and include travel, lodging, meals, special promotional marketing, and meeting expenses; per LCI's reimbursement policy.
  • In CA expenses cannot exceed US$2,000 and outside CA plans cannot exceed US$5,000.
  • Lastly reimbursement requests must not exceed actual expenses incurred by the Specialty Club Coordinator or actual dues and entrance fees collected by LCI for the new clubs, whichever is lower.

 Reporting Lines

  • The Country and Co-Country Coordinator will submit feedback/results to PID Khetan.
  • An LCI program specialist will monitor Specialty Club Coordinator’s plan and track results.
  • After a year, retention will be measured.

Acknowledgement from LCI International President Naresh Aggarwal

  • At the end of each fiscal year (June 30), recognition will be provided to the Specialty Clubs Coordinator and Leadership team that charters the most clubs and/or members within a fiscal year.
  • Recognition will include a Presidential certificate and pin; awards will be shipped in July for delivery in August.
