Funding and Promoting Youth Camps and Exchanges

Funding and Promoting Youth Camps and Exchanges

Funding for Youth Exchanges

Sponsor clubs, districts, multiple districts or youth participants themselves can raise funds or finance the costs of exchanges. If the participant needs to raise funds, they may need an official letter of acceptance or other informational materials from the sponsor Lions club. This will assist the participant when approaching donors

Funding for Camps

A finance committee should be established to determine the Youth Camp budget. According to Board Policy, costs related to a Youth Camp will vary by program but should be kept to a reasonable minimum. Methods of financing Youth Camps may include:

  • Voluntary or mandatory contribution by each club in the host district, or each district to the multiple district
  • Distribution of expenses among several cooperating clubs
  • Voluntary contributions from benefactors
  • Corporate and/or community sponsors
  • Reasonable fees for special cultural and educational activities that are part of the camp experience

Promoting the Program

To inform local youth (ages 15-22) about the Youth Camp and Exchange Program, some clubs or districts organize essay contests to select participants. Or, clubs may consider distributing notices to:

  • Local schools
  • Youth centers
  • Community centers
  • Houses of worship
  • Local media

Be sure to share links to the Youth Camp and Exchange Directory and Youth Participants pages on the LCI website in your email communications with perspective youth applicants and through your club, district, or multiple district social media channels.
