Insurance Information

Insurance Information

According to Lions Clubs International Board Policy, the following insurance requirements must be met by the various parties involved in the Youth Camp and Exchange Program (YCE):

SPONSORING LIONS CLUB

  • Verifies that the YCE applicants have adequate medical, life, personal property and liability insurance
  • Ensures that this insurance covers any and all contingencies during the entire duration of the exchange visit, including all travel time
  • Verifies what amount of coverage is considered necessary from the hosting Lions and/or a competent insurance representative
  • Provides applicants’ proof of insurance coverage to the host Lions, either directly or through the YCE Chairperson
  • Works with a local attorney to prepare an indemnity agreement releasing Lions clubs, club members, districts, multiple districts and Lions Clubs International from liability for the applicants’ parents or guardians (if a minor) to sign prior to the Lions youth camp and/or exchange

HOST LIONS CLUB

  • Determines the amount of coverage appropriate to cover the duration of the camp and/or exchange visit, regardless of the youth’s coverage in his/her home country
  • Determines whether or not inbound youth participants should be required to subscribe (at their own expense) to medical, life, personal property, liability or other type of insurance

HOST FAMILIES

  • Host families can be classified as "additional insureds" under Lions Clubs International’s general liability coverage if the Lions club can provide a basis for their official program involvement.  This can easily be done by having the official host family names added to the Lions clubs' meeting minutes
  • Additional insurance as deemed necessary is encouraged

The above information is referenced in detail in the YCE policy.  Please review the Request for Certificate of Insurance to access information on the association's General Liability Insurance Program.
