Information for Sight Chairperson

Organize Vision Service Projects

Organize vision service projects in your area by becoming a sight chairperson in your club, district or mulitple district.  Motivate Lions to undertake service projects that:

  • Provide programs and assistance to aid children and adults who are blind or have low vision.
  • Promote eye health and eye safety to eliminate preventable blindness.

By working together, multiple district, district and club sight chairpersons can organize effective service projects in their communities. Club, District and Multiple District Sight
Chairpersons are appointed by the club president, district governor and council chairperson, respectively.

Sight Chairperson Responsibilities

Set goals:

  • Evaluate the effectiveness of current vision projects.
  • Develop goals and an overall action plan.
  • Submit the plan for the club president's, district governor’s or council chairperson’s approval.

Communicate goals and project ideas:

  • Inform Lions through the multiple district, district and club websites, newsletters and social media accounts.

Incorporate new project ideas:

  • Encourage Lions to share news of their vision projects.
  • Avoid duplication of local, regional or national programs.
  • Work with local health care professionals to determine community needs and provide the most appropriate services.   

Arrange seminars and workshops:

  • Provide educational resources and information on eye health and eye safety.
  • Invite eye care professionals as speakers to help motivate Lions to participate.
  • Discuss projects that can provide outreach to adults and children in the community who are blind or have low vision.

Solicit feedback:

  • Find out how to further support Lions in planning sight projects.

Report vision service projects:

  • Share news about vision projects with the multiple district or district public relations chairperson.
  • Report your activities in MyLCI.
